SYNPO research institute is a Joint Stock Company with more than 60 years tradition in R&D of polymeric materials. Four research teams specialize in synthesis of polyesters, polyurethanes, epoxies and acrylates and formulation of paints, composites and adhesives. One of major reaseach areas is development of nanostructured and hybrid polymers and polymers based on recyclable and renewable resources.


Role in the project:

Development of 100% biopolyester resin based on cutin separated from the waste tomatoes skin that will be utilised as laquer coating applied to the internal/external surfaces of metal food packaging. Development of a polyester resin containing at least 30-40% of natural resin for application to the outside of the cans. Evaluation of the coatings properties.


Key staff:

· Tomáš Vlček is a scientist leader of research group working on synthesis of biobased polyurethanes and polyesters, enzymatic catalysis and recycling of polymeric waste materials.

· Kateřina Zetková is a specialist in the field of paint and coatings; especially formulation and evaluation of protective coatings on wood and concrete, anticorrosive coatings, and car refinish lacquers.

· Jiří Zelenka is a head of R&D focused on nanoparticles and nanocomposites at SYNPO, Inc. He is engaged in studying the polymer materials in dynamic mechanical force field as well as in studying the fracture and equilibrium mechanical behaviour of polymers.
