BIOCOPAC: the consortium files a patent application for an innovative cutin extraction method (28/11/2013)

The BIOCOPAC Consortium proudly announces that the SMEs CHIESA (an innovative bio-refinery) and MARTINETE (a tomato preserving industry) have jointly filed a patent application regarding an innovative extraction method for cutin separation and extraction from tomato processing waste.

This innovative know-how has been developed by SSICA (IT) and CTAEX (ES), two leading research centres expert in food technology applications, entrusted by the  enterprises to conduct the research on their behalf.

This milestone achievement allows the extraction of a bio-resin to be formulated into an eco-friendly varnish for food-contact application, especially in the metal food packaging sector.

The Consortium is protecting the foreground looking forward to scale-up technology into a pilot plant advancing the technology at a higher readiness level. The Consortium is also interested in establishing cooperation and licensing negotiations for the next market penetration and commercialization.
